    Tempelfjorden

Tempelfjorden - A fjord in the fjords. From the Isfjord branches off the Sassenfjord, Billefjord and Nordenfjord. At the end of the Sassenfjord is the branch which is called the Tempelfjord. The Tempelfjord ends with the mighty glacier wall of the Tuna glacier and is surrounded by geological history. The area is dominated by Permo-Carboniferous sediments. Rocks of Triassic and Paleozoic/Mesozoic age can be found and recognized in the various layers, folds and faults.

The name comes from the massive temple mountain which looks like a temple in its splendor. And every year thousands of migratory birds nest in these imposing cliffs in the region.
