    Barentsburg

Barentsburg is a coal mining settlement, taken over by Russia in 1932. It is located about 55km from Longyearbyen and can be reached by boat in summer and by snowmobiles or dog sleds in winter.

There are mainly Russian and Ukrainian miners living in Barentsburg, who work in the still active coal mine.

In addition to a hotel and a hostel, there is also a restaurant with its own brewery, which serves guests all year round.
