Snowscooter Tour

1. January – 10. May

Once the landscape disappears beneath a closed blanket of snow, a vast and almost boundless terrain opens up — across frozen fjords, through silent valleys, and past mighty glaciers that shimmer blue in the clear Arctic light. By snowmobile, we cover distances in a single day that would take weeks on foot, reaching places hardly anyone else gets to see.

A tour usually begins with a thorough briefing: riding technique, safety, and how to handle the machine, so that even beginners quickly feel at ease. Please note: anyone who wishes to drive a snowmobile themselves needs a valid driving licence that is also recognized on Svalbard. This must be brought along on the tour and presented on-site. Then it's out into the open — sometimes across gentle, sweeping plains, sometimes through more varied terrain, always adapted to the rhythm of the group and the conditions of the day. Along the way we stop for photos, take in the silence, and keep an eye out for Arctic wildlife: reindeer, Arctic foxes, seals on the sea ice and, with a little luck and a respectful distance, a polar bear far off on the horizon.

Safety always comes first. Our experienced guides know the terrain, the weather patterns, and the ice conditions intimately, and lead the group responsibly through an environment that is as beautiful as it is demanding. Warm clothing, robust equipment, and careful route planning are all part of the package.

Whether as a day tour from Longyearbyen or a multi-day adventure all the way out to our camp on the remote east coast, a snowmobile tour is the perfect combination of movement, vastness, and a true Arctic experience. It takes you exactly where Svalbard is at its most pristine: far out, in the heart of the silence.

Equipment

On our snowmobile tours, you're provided with special clothing designed for Arctic temperatures and weather conditions. This includes, among other things, a thermal suit with boots, mittens, and a helmet. You're only responsible for warm clothing to wear underneath the suit – for example, long underwear or thick wool socks.

A detailed packing list for the Arctic winter will be sent to you after booking a tour.
