Rent rubber boots on Svalbard

On an expedition cruise around Svalbard, landings are almost always made straight from the Zodiac onto the shore through shallow water — so-called "wet landings". Tall rubber boots keep your feet dry and warm. Instead of buying expensive boots for a single trip, you can rent them from us right in Longyearbyen.

Frequently asked questions

How can I pay for the rubber boots?

Payment is made directly online when reserving the rubberboots by card.

Can I rent a different size if the one I have booked does not fit?

When you pick up your boots, you can of course try them on and change sizes if we still have some available. It is best to reserve a size larger than you normally wear so that there is enough room for several pairs of socks.

I usually give shoe sizes in US or UK, and don't know what EU size fits me.

We can only rent EU sizes, but you can easily convert what your EU size is. Take a look at this table:

It is best to take one size larger, so that you still have enough space for thick socks.

When can I pick up the boots?

Between 3pm and 4pm on the day of embarkation you can pick up the boots at our Spitzbergen Reisen office in the heart of Longyearbyen. If this time slot absolutely does not fit, write us an email after ordering and we can adjust it.

When can I bring the rubber boots back?

We have a silver "Rubber Boots Return Box" outside the office. Just put your boots in there and send us a picture of them to our email address. Each boot has a number so we can track who has returned their boots. Please return your shoes until 11AM. If this does not work, please send us a short email to rubberboots@spitzbergen-reisen.no.

How much will I be refunded in the event of cancellation?

The following cancellation conditions apply:

For orders under NOK 3,000:

Up to 15 days before the rental date, we keep a processing fee of NOK 150 per order.

From the 14th day before the rental date, we are unfortunately unable to make a refund due to the short notice.

For orders over NOK 3,000:

Up to 15 days before the rental date, we retain 5% of the amount as a processing fee.

From the 14th day before the rental date, we are unfortunately unable to make any refunds due to the short notice.

I will be in Longyearbyen one or more days before the ship departs. Do I only need the boots for the boat trip or do I also need them in the town?

You don't need wellies in Longyearbyen, as there is enough infrastructure here to get by without them. You also have to take your shoes off in almost all buildings - so street shoes are much easier.

I'm travelling on MS Quest, Sjøveien or Stockholm, and the pick-up time doesn't suit me. What should I do?

We have made a special arrangement with PolarQuest that the boots can be picked up at the following times - this harmonises with PolarQuest's local programme:

MS Sjøveien: Between 12:00 and 13:00

MS Quest: Between 13:00 and 14:00

MS Stockholm: Between 13:00 and 14:00

If you pick up the boot a day later or return it earlier and therefore use it for a shorter time, we unfortunately can't refund part of the rental fee, as we keep the boot reserved for you.

What happens if I return the boots late?

For a late return we charge 200 NOK per additional day.

What if I lose a boot?

If a boot is lost we charge a replacement fee of 2500 NOK.

Can the boots be delivered to the ship?

No, unfortunately we can't bring the boots to your ship, as they need to be tried on. On request, we can arrange for the boots to be collected at the ship for an additional 700 NOK.
