Tours with children

15. April – 31. August

Experiencing Svalbard as a whole family is something neither children nor parents will soon forget — and with a little preparation, the far north becomes a real adventure for everyone. Since many activities depend on age, weather, and the harsh Arctic conditions, we usually recommend arriving from around the age of 6; in the summer months, though, a visit works well with younger children too. On top of that, most tours on-site are only available from the age of 8 or 12.

For families, we design a program tailored entirely to you and the age of your children. A city tour through Longyearbyen — with or without a stop at the museum — combines wonderfully with a hike whose pace and length we gently adapt to the children. For the youngest ones, please bring your own child seat for the city tour; booster seats we're happy to provide. In winter, shorter snowmobile tours are also possible. So the children don't get cold along the way, we bring a heated "sluffe" — a trailer for the snowmobile, similar to a bike trailer, in which the little ones can warm up nicely again as we go.

When you come makes a big difference for a relaxed family experience: the most pleasant times are either towards the end of winter, when the temperatures are already growing milder (from around mid-April), or during the summer months. That way, you can discover the Arctic at an easy pace and with plenty of joy, even with the smallest ones.

Just get in touch — together we'll find a program that fits your family perfectly.

Equipment

To make sure the whole family feels comfortable, warm, weatherproof clothing is the most important thing – ideally in several layers, so you can adapt flexibly to the conditions. For children, we recommend warm ski underwear (wool is great), a windproof and waterproof outer layer, a hat, gloves, a face cover (buff), and sturdy, warm, ankle-high footwear. There is never too much warm clothing for children, especially when they are very young.

For the snowmobile tours in winter, we provide the necessary warm equipment such as a thermal suit, boots, helmet, and mittens – in suitable children's sizes where available. It's best to get in touch with us about this beforehand, so we can have everything ready in the right size for your children.

For the sightseeing tour, please bring your own child seat for small children; booster seats we keep ready for you.

Also remember sunglasses and sunscreen against the bright Arctic light, as well as plenty of snacks and something to drink for along the way. A detailed packing list will be sent to you after booking your tour.
