A private ship expedition is one of the most beautiful and exclusive ways to discover Svalbard — because many of the archipelago's most impressive natural wonders can only be reached by water during the summer months. Towering glacier fronts, remote bays, bird cliffs, and the endless pack ice can be experienced from the ship in a wholly special way — from a perspective that remains hidden to you on land.
At the heart of what we offer is the private charter: a ship entirely for you and your group, with no other passengers and the full freedom to shape the journey according to your own ideas. For a private expedition to work ideally, it's best to come in a group of at least 6 people — usually up to 12. But we have the right options for larger groups too, and together we'll find the right solution. Since we cooperate with various ships, the right size and character can be found for every charter — from an atmospheric sailing ship to a comfortable motor vessel.
The great advantage of a private charter is complete flexibility: whether cruising leisurely in the Isfjorden, circumnavigating Svalbard, or heading out into the pack ice — together we tailor the route precisely to what matters to you, and adjust it flexibly along the way to suit the weather, the ice, and your wishes. You also decide on the focus of the journey yourselves: extended hikes on land, for instance, or the best conditions and moments of light for photographers. It's your expedition — and we shape it entirely around that.
We're happy to look together at which ship best suits your plans, and then take care of the entire organization of the private charter, so that you can focus fully on the experience. Since we ourselves spend a great deal of time as guides aboard ships in summer, we know many of them from first-hand experience — and can advise you personally and knowledgeably, so that your private expedition turns out to be exactly the right one.
For a ship expedition, you don't need any special equipment – we always provide warm rubber boots for the landings by dinghy on our tours.
What you should bring yourself is warm, weatherproof clothing in several layers, a windproof and waterproof outer layer (jacket and trousers), a hat, gloves, and a face cover (buff) against the wind and spray. For the hikes ashore, sturdy, ankle-high hiking boots are also recommended.
Don't forget your camera, a pair of binoculars (can be rented) for wildlife watching, sunglasses against the bright Arctic light, as well as any personal medication and, if needed, something for seasickness. A detailed packing list will be sent to you after booking your tour.
A private tour means full flexibility — in route, breaks, photo stops, and pace. Get in touch — we'd be happy to put together a personalized offer for you.
