Walrus safari

May - November

For centuries, the walruses of Svalbard were the target of many hunters and trophy collectors because of their long and valuable tusks. This led to the population becoming almost completely extinct in the 1950s. Only through various protection measures and a hunting ban was the species able to recover and today it once again populates large parts of the island.

Lucky for us and all animal-loving visitors who can experience these unique animals on this ship tour.

What to expect on the walrus safari

In the morning you will be transferred directly from your accommodation in Longyearbyen to the ship. This will take you out of the harbour into calm waters, where the likelihood of encountering walruses is particularly high.

There is usually a small snack on board. After the tour you will be taken back to your accommodation.

This tour is offered by one of our local partner companies in English. Warm clothing is recommended.

No special previous knowledge is needed but a medium level of fitness is required to participate in this tour.

For groups we are happy to offer private tours, which can be freely designed in terms of content. Together we can put together a program exactly according to your wishes and ideas. A private tour is somewhat more expensive, but offers many advantages and privileges both in the program design, as well as in the implementation of the trip here on Svalbard.

Program events are always weather dependent and the implementation of scheduled activities may be modified or cancelled due to safety concerns.

If the minimum number of participants is not reached one month before the start of the tour, we cannot carry out the tour according to the program and price. In this case we will discuss the details and possibilities with you personally.
