June - September
Come with us on an intensive 8-day Spitsbergen sailing expedition in the everlasting light of the Arctic midnight sun. In summer, ice-free waters and permanent light allow exploration at any time of day or night. Svalbard blossoms with life in the short Arctic summer.
A paradise for adventurers, photographers and nature lovers.
The focus of this trip is to explore the rugged and unique flora and fauna of Spitsbergen. We will experience what Svalbard has to offer, from magnificent landscapes with the most diverse vegetation and the fascinating wildlife. We are in the middle of it and very close to nature. If wind and weather permit, we will go on shore excursions every day with our German speaking guides and expedition leaders from Spitzbergen Reisen into the wild nature. Our goal is to explore the west and northwest of Spitsbergen and experience the archipelago with plenty of time for intensive nature experiences and in depth wildlife observations.
Whenever wind and weather permit, sails will be hoisted. It is an indescribable experience to glide through the wild arctic sea driven by the wind. If you are interested in sailing, you are welcome to lend a hand. Under the expert guidance of the captain and his crew, one or the other can certainly not only get to know Spitsbergen intensively but also enjoy a real sailing experience.

You don't need any special previous experience to participate in this tour. But it would be good if you are somewhat seaworthy or prepared for swell and have fun with exercise and adventure.
The traditional rigging and the robust underwater hull make this two-master a particularly safe sailing vessel at sea. Due to its shape and length, the Meander moves smoothly over the water. Due to the easy handling of the sails and the good sailing characteristics, even people without sailing experience can easily and actively participate in sailing.
For cold regions there is a good central heating.
In the deckhouse there is a cozy salon with a separate kitchen and a view of the surroundings. A refrigerator with soft drinks and wines are available. Bring cash to pay for these. Below deck are the double cabins, each with bunk beds and a small sink. Two separate showers and three separate toilets are also installed.
Meals are served in the saloon. This is where you meet in the afternoon for a cup of coffee or tea and a freshly baked cake, or where the guides present exciting lectures in the evening hours. The wheelhouse is the heart of the ship and here you will find all the equipment to sail safely across the oceans. It is also a wonderful place to hang out, steer, take shelter or participate in the watch.
Even without wind, the Meander makes good progress. A four-cylinder MAK M423 built in 1960 powers the ship and is a reliable marine engine. It is really fun to watch and listen to this low-speed (265 rpm) engine. The 300 horsepower makes the Meander a powerful and economical ship.
