May - October
A journey to the north of the Isfjord system. On this day trip you will see the wonderful nature of Svalbard, bird cliffs, a huge glacier and the Russian ghost town Pyramiden.
The boat trip takes you across the Isfjord to the Diabas - an impressive bird cliff where thousands of birds breed - further into the Adolfbukta to the beautiful Nordenskiöld Glacier whose front flows directly into the sea. A grilled lunch will be served on board. Early afternoon is the landing at the old Russian ghost town of Pyramiden. Once more than 1000 people lived here. Today, not much of that glory days remains. We are greeted by a Russian guide who tells us in English about the former and present life, history and culture of the old mining settlement. After a good two hours on site, we return to the ship and back to Longyearbyen. The way back remains exciting, as the trip passes Skansbukta, an abandoned gypsum mine and the legendary Svenskehyset. In addition, you should keep your eyes open. From time to time you will encounter whales, seals or other marine mammals on the trip.
